Buffalo (WKBW.com) The 2012 season opener is now less then two weeks away, but the focus for the UB football program has turned off the field. Star linebacker Khalil Mack has been suspended from the football team pending an investigation into his undisclosed violation of team policy.

The investigation, which is being handled by school officials at UB, is expected to wrap up over the next couple of days. It is unclear if he will be held out of any games. Mack has not been at practice this week, and did not take part in the teams scrimmage on Saturday.

A spokesperson for the UB Athletics Department sent the following statement to Eyewitness Sports on Tuesday.

"I can confirm that linebacker Khalil Mack has been suspended from the football team for violation of team policy. Due to federal privacy regulations around student disciplinary matters, we cannot provide additional details. UB Athletics is committed to operating with the highest level of character and integrity, and most importantly, to doing what is right for our student-athletes."

Mack was a first team All-Mac selection in 2011 as a sophomore. He had 65 tackles, including 20.5 tackles for a loss last year. The Bulls are scheduled to open the 2012 season at Georgia on September 1st.
