Buffalo (WKBW) The good news is the Sabres will get another crack at the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday night, because the team surely didn't put it's best foot forward on Thursday.

Carolina captain Eric Staal scored a hat trick, and Jeff Skinner added a pair of goals as the Hurricanes knocked off the Sabres 6-3 on Thursday night. It was the Sabres first loss of the year.

Goaltender Jhonas Enroth had a tough night, but didn't get much help. Enroth surrendered 5 goals on 37 shots. Eric Staal added a tally on an empty net.

Jason Pominville had a pair of goals for the Sabres. Cody Hodgson scored his third goal in three games. The 2-1 Sabres host the Hurricanes on Friday night in the second part of a home-and-home series.
