Buffalo (WKBW) The Buffalo Sabres put up a season high 44 shots but it wasn't enough to win the battle of the bottom two teams in the NHL. The last place Sabres fell to the Edmonton Oilers on Monday 3-2 at the First Niagara Center.
Matt Hendricks scored the game-winning goal shorthanded for the Oilers in the third period. Hendricks took a pass from Boyd Gordan before skating in to beat Jhonas Enroth on the breakaway. Jeff Petry and Justin Schultz also scored for Edmonton who improved to 18-33-6. Ilya Bryzgalov made 42 saves in the victory.
Enroth made 25 saves for the Sabres but fell to 1-11-5 on the year. Steve Ott and Drew Stafford scored for the Sabres. Ott his 9th goal of the season on the power play in the first period. Stafford scored his 8th of the year shorthanded.
Sabres defenseman Tyler Myers left Monday's game after sustaining a lower body injury in the second period. Interim Head Coach Ted Nolan said afterwards that there was "a little concern" about the injury but an update wasn't available on Monday night.
