Buffalo (WKBW) The promise of a solid start to the season has quickly fizzled for the Buffalo Sabres. The Sabres suffered their second loss in as many nights to the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday, falling 3-1 at the First Niagara Center.

Thomas Vanek scored the Sabres only goal. Vanek snapped a scoreless tie on the power play with his third goal of the season at 1:56 of the third period. Carolina's Alexander Semin tied the game just over a 1:30 later with his first goal of the year. Semin's tally also came on the power play. Jay Harrison then scored the eventual game winning goal for Carolina at 15:10 of the third period.

Ryan Miller had 39 saves in a losing effort. He dropped to 2-1 on the year. Jeff Skinner scored an empty net goal for Carolina. The now 2-2 Sabres are at Washington on Sunday
