Sabres hold on for overtime win over Montreal
Montreal (WKBW) Steve Ott scored a pair of goals, and Jhonas Enroth made 32 saves, as the Buffalo Sabres held on for a 3-2 overtime victory in Montreal on Tuesday night. The win was only the Sabres second in the last eight games. Ott, who was elevated to the first line earlier in the day, opened the scoring in the first period. The gritty winger ripped home his fourth goal of the season to give Buffalo a 1-0 lead a 7:47 of the first. The Sabres would strike again later in the period. Tyler Ennis tipped home his eighth goal of the year off a shot from Tyler Myers to make it 2-0 Sabres at 18:59. Things would start to go in the other direction in the second period. Winger Thomas Vanek was hit by a puck on the power play and left the game with what the Sabres called a "lower body injury". Vanek did not return to the ice. The Sabres then watched their 2-0 lead slip away in the third period. Max Pacioretty cut the Buffalo lead to 2-1, before Colby Armstrong tied the game at 2 at 16:09 of the third. Armstrong was left all alone in front of Jhonas Enroth before putting home his second goal of the season. It looked like Montreal was about to finish off the comeback in the final moments of third when Enroth came up with his biggest save of the game. Enroth robbed the Canadiens Brian Gionta of a sure goal with a glove save to force overtime. In OT Ott scored his second of the night on the power play to secure the 3-2 victory. The goal came following a High-sticking penalty to P.K. Subban just :17 into overtime. The Sabres host Toronto on Thursday.
