Buffalo (WKBW) It's going to take a run to get back into the mix but the Buffalo Sabres took a small step forward on Tuesday night. Tyler Myers scored the game winning goal in the third period, and Ryan Miller made 30 saves, as the Sabres knocked off the Tampa Bay Lightning 2-1.
The win snapped the Sabres four-game losing streak but the team had to dig out of an early hole to earn interim Head Coach Ron Rolston his first NHL victory.
Lightning star Steven Stamkos scored his 14th goal of the season just 1:24 into the first period to put the Sabres down 1-0. Buffalo would answer later in the period when Cody Hodgson tied the game with his 8th of the year.
Myers scored what proved to be the game winning goal with his 3rd tally of the year just :52 seconds into the third. The Sabres will continue the teams road trip Thursday against the Florida Panthers.
