Buffalo (WKBW) Five games into the season and the Buffalo Sabres are still looking for their first win. It's been an ugly start and the effort on Thursday was the worst of the bunch. Boos rang down from the rafters at the First Niagara Center as the Sabres dropped to 0-4-1 on the season with a 4-1 loss to Columbus.

Cam Atkinson had a goal and an assist for the visiting Blue Jackets. Thomas Vanek scored the only goal for Buffalo. His second goal of the season was the lone highlight for the home team. Vanek tucked a pass from Steve Ott between his legs and past Sergei Bobrovsky to tie the at one in the first period.

Nick Foligno, Marian Gaborik and Brandon Dubinsky also scored for Columbus who improved to 2-1 on the season. Ryan Miller had 29 saves in his return to the lineup for the Sabres. Miller had missed the previous two games because of a lower body injury.
