Buffalo (WKBW) A lack of scoring, and late penalties hurt the Buffalo Sabres again as they lost 3-1 to the Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday night.
Montreal scored a pair of power play goals. David Desharnais scored the eventual game winner at 13:44 of the second period with the man advantage. His second goal of the year gave the Canadiens a 2-0 lead. Matt Moulson would cut that lead in half for the Sabres. Moulson scored Buffalo's lone goal off a pass from Drew Stafford at 17:30 of the second.
The Sabres washed away late chances to tie it with a pair of third period penalties. Tyler Myers took a questionable boarding call at 11:17 of the third. Tyler Ennis was called for interference at 17:02 of the third. Montreal put the game away on the resulting power play when Brendan Gallagher beat Ryan Miller for the 3-1 lead at 18:16.
Alex Galchenyuk opened the scoring for Montreal. The Sabres host Toronto on Friday.
