TORONTO, ONTARIO - (WKBW) The Toronto Maple Leafs beat the Buffalo Sabres 4-3 in a shootout Wednesday night. It was the final meeting of the season between the two teams.

Toronto's Phil Kessel scored the only goal of the first period.

Matt Ellis and Matt Moulson countered early in the second frame for Buffalo. But Nikolai Kulemin and Morgan Rielly scored later in the period to give the Leafs a 3-2 lead after 40 minutes.

Cody Hodgson tallied on the power play in the third period to tie the score at three.

Ryan Miller stopped 36 shots during regulation/overtime but was unable to come up with any saves in the shootout. Tyler Bozak scored the shootout clincher for the Maple Leafs. Moulson was the only Sabre to score on James Reimer during the shootout.

Sabres forward Zemgus Girgensons registered an NHL season-high 13 hits.

The Sabres next host the Blue Jackets on Saturday.
