October 19, 2013 Updated Oct 19, 2013 at 10:44 PM EDT

BUFFALO, NY - (WKBW) It took the Buffalo Sabres over 14 minutes to get a shot on goal against the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday night. It was again that kind of evening for Buffalo's hockey club.

Matt Duchene had a goal and an assist leading the Avs past the struggling Sabres 4-2.

Duchene helped open the scoring in the first period as he fed Ryan O'Reilly for the first goal of the game.

Colorado captain Gabriel Landeskog's wrap-around beat Ryan Miller three minutes later to make it 2-0.

Duchene made it 3-0 just 56 seconds into the second period with a power play goal.

After Cody Hodgson's slap shot rocketed by Avs goalie J.S. Giguere, Paul Stastny netted his first of the season to make the score 4-1 after 40 minutes.

Marcus Foligno scored the lone third period goal.

The Sabres actually ended the night outshooting Colorado 30-26.

Buffalo next hosts the Bruins on Wednesday.
