Sabres Players Looking to Play Elsewhere

BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) - Buffalo Sabres players continue to skate on their own as the NHL lockout drags on into its second week. But how much longer will they stay in Western New York?

Sabres winger Thomas Vanek tells eyewitness sports anchor Shawn Stepner that he has talked to professional teams in his native Austria about playing for them during the lockout. He is considering playing overseas but is not close to jumping to Austria at this point.

The same can't be said for winger Ville Leino.

Leino says he has been talking with teams overseas as well. He is willing to wait another two weeks to see if progress is made between the NHL and NHL Players Association, but if the players are still locked out in a couple weeks, he wants to play in the Swedish Elite League. Leino is a native of Finland.

Two Sabres have already signed to play in Europe. Defenseman Christian Ehrhoff is playing in his home country of Germany. Center Tyler Ennis is playing in Switzerland.
