Buffalo (WKBW) Buffalo Sabres forward Patrick Kaleta has been suspended by the NHL for ten games for his hit on Columbus defenseman Jack Johnson on October 10th.
Kaleta hit Johnson with an illegal check to the head at 3:01 of the first period of the Sabres 4-1 loss to the Blue Jackets. He had an in-person hearing with the NHL Department of Player Safety on Tuesday. He will forfeit $152,439.00 in salary.
In a video explanation of the suspension released by the NHL Director of Player Safety Brendan Shanahan said the fact that Kaleta is considered a repeat offender played a role in the length of the penalty. Kaleta had been fined or suspended six times over the last four seasons prior to his hit on Johnson.
