Prince of Wales Stakes date changed
Fort Erie (WKBW/Release) Breaking with tradition, Fort Erie Race Track management has announced that the date for the Prince of Wales Stakes, the second jewel in Canada’s Triple Crown, will be moved from its customary Sunday afternoon to Tuesday, July 30th during the tracks popular twilight card. There are a number of reasons why the change could be a great success for the 116 year-old Border Oval. The race will have significantly less simulcast competition from major tracks such as Woodbine, New York and California all of whom are dark on Tuesdays. Traffic coming over the Peace Bridge will be less congested compared to a weekend as well media coverage should be greater as Tuesday is traditionally a slower day in the sports world. For a variety of different reasons there is great optimism to increase wagering and reach a new demographic as a result of the adjustment. First race post time for the day will be set for 4:15pm. The Prince of Wales will be carded as the 8th race with an estimated post of 7:30pm. Parking and admission will be free as usual.
