BUFFALO, NY (WKBW-TV) Today, Coca Cola Field celebrated its 26th opening day.

The ballpark wasn't always intended to house just minor league baseball. Late mayor Jimmy Griffin, along with the Rich family pushed hard for a major league team in the city. Although the big leagues never came calling, the city got a big league stadium.

Originally designed by Hok Development, the previously called Pilot Field was designed to house a major league team. With a roof and twenty thousand extra seats, if needed.

Some of the most popular big league ballparks were influenced by Pilot Field.

Pilot Field was Hok developments first ever design.
