BUFFALO, NY - (WKBW) Ville Leino played the hero, Nathan Lieuwen picked up his first NHL win and the Sabres beat the Devils Tuesday night 3-2 in a shootout.
Dainius Zubrus opened the scoring in the second period, giving the Devils a 1-0 lead.
Tyler Ennis scored two goals, 3:02 apart, to open the third period. That gave him a new career high in goals with 21 this season. His second came on the power play.
However, Tuomo Ruutu's power play deflection about two minutes later tied the game at two.
Leino's shootout goal in the top of the ninth round, coupled with Lieuwen's save on Mike Sislo clinched the win for the Sabres.
Buffalo next visits former goaltender Ryan Miller, former captain Steve Ott and the St. Louis Blues on Thursday.
