ORCHARD PARK, NY (WKBW) Campers attending Jim Kelly’s Annual Football Camp are inspired by the Bills Hall of Fame Quarterback, who is in the recovery stage, after battling oral cancer this winter.
A month ago, Kelly completed aggressive rounds of chemotherapy and radiation to target the cancer, which spread to his sinuses.
Kelly has said he never thought he would have to say the “C” word as he calls cancer, and it’s hopefully behind him.
“I saw a doctor in Houston last week to see if the cancer has spread and it has not,” said Jim Kelly, speaking at his annual football camp today.
Kelly, mentally in good spirits but physically struggling. He gets tired often, has no saliva in his mouth and is still eating through a feeding tube.
The true test will come in August, as Kelly visits his doctor for an update, to see if the cancer has spread. August will be a full 8-12 weeks after he finished treatments.
His health obviously first and foremost on his mind, but another thing is the sale of the Buffalo Bills. Now that the team is officially on the market, Kelly has been approached, he says by several individuals but is not part of a group yet.
“I am not part of a group,” said Kelly. “I am part of my own group with my brothers, but I do not have enough money to buy the Buffalo Bills.”
Kelly is still committed to keeping the Bills in Buffalo.
