Buffalo (WKBW) Buffalo Bills Head Coach Doug Marrone revealed on Tuesday night that he recently had a cancerous mole removed from his skin. Marrone says the condition will not impact his ability to coach the team.
Here is the statement that Marrone released "During a recent doctor's visit, it was discovered that I had a cancerous mole on my skin, which has since been removed. The only follow up required is to have my moles checked every 3 months and that basically is the end of the story. The recent extraction procedure will have no effect on my ability to coach the team moving forward."
Earlier in the evening the Bills appeared to have mistakenly posted a story on BuffaloBills.com saying "Doug Marrone announces he has cancer".The copy of the story said Marrone "shared the news today that he's been diagnosed with BLANK cancer". The story did not clarify the condition Marrone was dealing with a was quickly taken down. A statement from the team was released an hour later.
