Orchard Park (WKBW) Bills Head Coach Doug Marrone announced on Monday that Thad Lewis will be the starting quarterback against the Cincinnati Bengals this week.
With quarterback EJ Manuel set to miss a couple of weeks with a sprained LCL in his right knee, and rookie Jeff Tuel struggling in his first NFL action against the Browns, Marrone decided to elevate Lewis off the practice squad to lead the Buffalo offense against the Bengals. "He can run, he can extend plays, he can run the read-option and he can thrown the ball extremely well", said Marrone on Monday.
Lewis, who originally entered the league as an undrafted rookie with St. Louis in 2010 will be making his second career NFL start against the Bengals. As a member of the Cleveland Browns Lewis completed 22-of-32 passes for 204 yards in a 24-10 loss to Pittsburgh last December. Lewis had a touchdown and and interception in the set back.
