Andre Reed plays Hall of Fame waiting game

January 28, 2013 Updated Jan 28, 2013 at 6:01 PM EDT

Buffalo (WKBW) Andre Reed knows the drill well, but it hasn't become any easier. "Maybe this will be the year that I break out", Reed said on Monday.

For a seventh consecutive year the Bills all time great is among the finalists being considered for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The selection committee will meet this Saturday in New Orleans before announcing the class of 2013.

Reed has made it to this point six times before. All six times he's come up short. "I think more people, friends and family think about it more then I do." Reed told Eyewitness Sports Director Jeff Russo by phone. "If it happens it happens and that's it. I'm just honored to be in this position"

Reed will again face competition from other greats at wide receiver. Tim Brown and Cris Carter are both finalists. Several first time finalists are also on the list including Warren Sapp, Michael Strahan, Larry Allen and Jonathan Ogden.

"The list of finalists is always impeccable every year. You don't get to this point if they don't think you are worthy of being in the Hall of Fame. I have been in a logjam for awhile now. We will see", said Reed.

But Reed admits being patient over the last several years has been difficult. "It has been. I'm not going to lie. Maybe the first couple of years I was like "Oh.. OK". To me it's gone on too long. Patience is a virtue and everything. I'm a little bit over hearing the same thing all the time."

Reed will be in New Orleans for Super Bowl week starting on Tuesday. .
