EDISON, N.J. - (NU) Niagara men's basketball senior Bilal Benn (Philadelphia, Pa.) earned MAAC Player of the Week honors, helping the Purple Eagles to a 3-1 week. The guard/forward averaged a double-double during the four-game week.
Benn picked up right where he left off last season in the double-double category, netting the distinction in his first three games of the season. Last year, Benn led the conference wuth 12 double-doubles.
The senior averaged 14.5 ppg and 10.0 rpg during the 3-1 week. He also added 13 assists and nine steals while shooting 43.5 percent from the floor and a perfect 13-for-13 from the free throw line.
Tuesday morning, Benn recorded 19 points and 14 rebounds as part of a win over Drexel on ESPN. He responded with his third double-double in as many games in the Glenn Wilkes Classic opener with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Of his 40 rebounds, Benn pulled in 15 on the offensive side.
Benn and the rest of the Purple Eagles travel to Mount St. Mary's on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. tip.
