Sabres Scary on Halloween

By WKBW Sports

UNIONDALE, NY - The Buffalo Sabres dropped their first road game of the season on Saturday night as they lost to the Islanders 5-0.

Buffalo was a step behind for most of the evening. Both teams were playing the second game on back-to-back nights. Several Sabres felt ill for the contest. Forwards Paul Gaustad and Patrick Kaleta didn't even make the trip because they were suffering from the flu.

Ryan Miller allowed three goals on 16 shots in the first and second periods. Richard Park beat Miller late in the first frame after Park stole the puck from Sabres defenseman Tyler Myers.

Then two goals from Jeff Tambellini chased Miller from the net in the second period. Patrick Lalime took over in goal.

However, Lalime was then beaten by Josh Bailey to give the Isles a four goal advantage. Tambellini capped the scoring later in the third as he notched the hat trick.

Former Sabre Martin Biron stopped 38 shots for his first win as an Islander, and 200th of his NHL career.

Buffalo outshot New York 38-30. The Sabres best period was the first, as they outchanced the Isles, and outshot them 14-9.

The same two teams meet again on Wednesday in Buffalo.
