Bills Sign Three Picks

By WKBW Sports

The Bills announced Thursday night that they have come to terms with second-round pick James Hardy. The wide receiver from Indiana was the 41st overall pick in April. The 6-5 Hardy is expected to help the Bills red-zone production. Hardy was the third pick to sign Thursday, and the ninth of the teams' ten choices to come to terms.

PITTSFORD, N.Y. (AP) - Third-round draft pick Chris Ellis and
sixth-rounder Xavier Omon both signed four-year contracts with the
Bills on Thursday, the day before Buffalo opens training camp in
suburban Rochester.
Selected 72nd overall out of Virginia Tech, Ellis is a defensive
end who was an All-Atlantic Coast Conference first-team selection
last season. He had 8½ sacks as a senior. He finished with 22
career sacks.
Ellis' contract includes $800,000 that's guaranteed and is
potentially worth $3.2 million if he meets all incentive clauses.
He is expected to compete for a backup spot behind starters
Aaron Schobel and Chris Kelsay and on a revamped defensive line
that will be anchored by newly acquired tackle Marcus Stroud.
Omon, selected 179th out of Division II Northwest Missouri,
became only the second college player to have 1,500 yards rushing
in each of his four seasons. He finished with 7,073 yards rushing
and scored 98 touchdowns.
Omon is expected to compete with Dwayne Wright for the
third-string job behind starter Marshawn Lynch and backup Fred
Jackson.
The signings came on the day Bills players reported to camp and
leaves the team with only top pick cornerback Leodis McKelvin without a contract.
Ellis arrived at camp relieved the deal was completed, knowing
what it would mean to be a third-round draft pick not reporting on
time.
"I didn't want to be the first one in history," Ellis said.
"I didn't want it to go down like that because I know how it can
be perceived sometimes. But it is business and it came down to a
few particulars, and we were able to work everything out."
Omon said the delay in completing his contract resulted from his
decision to switch agents, which led to both sides restarting talks
from scratch.
"We had to start all over so I was a little bit scared. But
everything worked out," said Omon, who's now represented by Brian
Murphy.
