Bisons Snap Losing Streak

By bisons.com

It took some time, and at first it looked tough, but Dan Reichert picked up his first win as a Buffalo Bison on Monday night against the Syracuse Chiefs. A five-run fifth inning propelled the Herd to a 8-7 victory, halting a seven-game losing streak.
Going into the bottom of the fifth inning, the Herd found itself down 5-3 after giving Syracuse an early lead. With a couple of big swings ahead of them, they we bound for a comeback.

Asdrubal Cabrera's lead-off single was followed with a home run from Andy Gonzalez, his seventh of the season, tying the game 5-5. More Bisons singled and walked their way on, loading the bases for Morgan Ensberg. Ensberg was credited a RBI when he walked in a run, and then Jason Tyner was hit by a pitch to bring in another, putting the Herd up 7-5. Having already gone through the batting order, Cabrera singled once again, this time bringing in Jason Cooper for a 8-5. Ensberg almost gave the Bisons a sixth run on the inning, but was thrown out at the plate to end the inning.

Reichert's night would end after throwing five innings. He gave up five runs, only two of which were earned. He struck out three batters, as Syracuse scattered nine hits off of him.

A shaky sixth inning brought the Chiefs back within striking distance. With Juan Rincon starting the inning on the mound in relief of Reichert, the Chiefs brought in two more runs on three base hits.

Rincon would go another, one-two-three inning. He finished the game throwing for two full innings.

Rich Rundles also provided Buffalo with an inning of work. He didn't allow a hit let alone a run in his short outing. Rundles has not allowed a hit in his last seven appearances, and has gone eight-consecutive innings without giving up a run.

Reichert proved in the victory over Syracuse that with time and patience, good things will come. Although he was outstanding in his last three starts, Reichert didn't much help from his offense and went winless. Things were a little bit different for the Herd in Monday's win, things weren't as pretty, but the job still got done.

Randy Newsom closed the game on the mound for the Herd, earning his first save with Buffalo this year.
