Lois I. Rowe passed away on Monday, November 2, 2009 in Ocala, Florida after a short illness. Mrs. Rowe was born May 28, 1920 in Red Creek, NY, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F.W. Mead.
Lois married Francis Rowe on April 13, 1940. He predeceased her on March 10, 2002. She was a life long member of the Wesley Methodist and First United Methodist Churches in Niagara Falls. She was one of the founding members of the Wesley Quilters, a group of friends from the former Wesley United Methodist Church. The members got together weekly at Lois’ home to make quilts to support a wide variety of charities. Over the years approximately $100,000 was donated to charities. Lois and her quilting friends have been featured in various newspaper articles over the years as well as in Reminisce Magazine and The Quilters Newsletter. She made friends around the world through her quilting.
Lois is survived by her son Larry Rowe and wife Fran of Niagara Falls, daughters Eva Rowe and husband Glen Hudson of Ocala, FL and Eileen Guerra and husband Peter of Amherst, NY. She is also survived by a sister Uarda (Peggy) Sawma of Ocala, FL, grandchildren Laura Hartley and Jonathan Guerra, great grandchildren Raven and Devin Hartley and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was also predeceased by siblings Roscoe, Elden, Lawrence, Ruth and Florence (Mead) Dressler.
A memorial service and interment will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Assn. of W.N.Y., 2805 Wehrle Dr., Williamsville, NY 14221.
