BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) - Many people are home during these bitter cold days, but others are out on the job.
Bill Schneider is a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. He works in snow, cold, rain or shine.
He said that there are many challenges to his job during the winter but the key is to be prepared. Schneider said to wear two pairs of gloves and socks. Buy boots that keep your feet not only warm but dry. He also said to have extra clothes in case you end up getting wet.
Another challenge for Schneider is walking in the snow. He said many people do not shovel their driveways or sidewalks. He is forced to walk through snow mounds or in the street. He is asking customer to shovel and drivers to look out for those people working in the cold and snow.
Health experts warn people that physical activity in the cold can have a negative effect on your body, especially the heart. They said be careful not to overexert yourself when outside in these temperatures.
