One local student is off to Washington D.C. as he represents WNY in this years global competition.
WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. (WKBW) - Can you spell rugulose? Do you even know what it means? Don't worry, Mike Sobol has you covered.
It's a Latin word that means "to have small rugae" or "finely wrinkled" "The word is even so uncommon that when typed into your computer it will ask if you mean "arugula."
Well thanks to that word, Sobol, a seventh grader at St. Peter & Paul in Williamsville, is heading to Washington D.C. for the 2015 Scripps National Spelling Bee.
While in D.C. Sobol will compete against 285 of the best spellers from around the world.
Sobol, along with his family, will head to D.C. this weekend as they get ready for the week-long tournament.
The Scripps National Spelling Bee starts on Tuesday, May 26 and concludes May 29. The competition will be broadcast on ESPN and ESPN3.
