WNY man raises flag amidst controversy

BOSTON, N.Y. (WKBW) - Despite protests to remove the confederate flag in South Carolina, there are plenty of people in Western New York who support the controversial symbol.

One man in the Town of Boston started flying his flag in front of his home Monday and he had support from several residents.

Michael Randon says his decision to put his flag up had nothing to do with the controversy in South Carolina sparked by the killing of nine people inside a Charleston church by a self-proclaimed white supremacist.

Although Randon does not support the removal of the confederate flag in South Carolina or anywhere else, he maintains the timing of his flag display was merely a coincidence.

Major retailers like Walmart, Amazon, Sears and Ebay announced they are pulling all of their Confederate flag merchandise off the shelves.
