Negotiations to bring the national movie theater chain AMC to downtown Buffalo continue.

An email sent to 7 Eyewitness News from Benchmark Group, the local developer behind the project, says "the building owner recently made significant progress on terms with AMC and a final decision is expected soon."

The Main street project is an estimated to cost $9 million dollars.

Several residents and downtown employees tell 7 Eyewitness they are disappointed but not surprised by the lack of progress.

"You know as someone who was born and raised in Buffalo they're trying to make improvements and changes but a lot of times things are either not improving or getting worse," Jaclyn Rivera told 7 Eyewitness News.

The vacant Dipson theater was purchased by the Benchmark Group for $250,000 in February of 2016.
