After months of planning, graduating senior Matthew Walkden at West Seneca East Senior High pulled off a recreation of a drunk driving crash involving teens.

All while his peers watched from Behind yellow crime scene tape in the parking lot of the school. It’s part of his massive senior project like no other at West Seneca East.

Walkden decided to do this after listening to his father tell horrific stories about crashed involving young drivers. The student’s father is a nurse for Mercy Flight. He thought this would be the perfect gift to his classmate.

“I figured if we can educate the young so when they grow old it stays in the front rather than the back of their head,” Walkden said.

Students at West Seneca East are having prom tonight, School leaders hope after they see this recreation of the car accident it will deter them from drinking and driving.

According to AAA, the period between Memorial Day and Labor Day is the deadliest time for teen drivers. Over the past five years more than 1,600 people were killed in crashes involving inexperienced drivers nationwide.

Now AAA is working with AT&T, state leaders, and state troopers to bring awareness to this issue with a new campaign.
