Monkeys on the Run
LAKELAND, Fla. - It's not "Planet of the Apes" -- but a pack of monkeys is on the loose in Polk County, Florida. State wildlife officials say 15 monkeys escaped from their island home by swimming across a pond. That's not something they're supposed to be able to do. Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission spokesman Gary Morse says the monkeys pose no threat to people. The adult Patas monkeys are about three feet long, not including their tails. Experts say they're friendly but fast. The escaped monkeys are the personal pets of Lex Salisbury, the CEO of Lowry Park Zoo in Tampa. |
