The University of Buffalo unveiled the design for its new $375 million downtown medical facility Wednesday.
The signature feature is a fully lit, six story, glass atrium joining the building's two L-shaped structures.
The 550,000 square foot, 7 story building will house the University of Buffalo School of Medicine and and Biomedical Sciences in the heart of the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus.
"Through its location on the medical campus, they are connected to healthcare, the very subject of our teaching," said Robert Shibley, University of Buffalo Campus Architect. "So you get a very human engagement and much better research environment."
A groundbreaking ceremony is set for the the fall.
Construction is expected to be completed in 2016.
