BUFFALO, NY ( WKBW ) Last Saturday night just as the party was getting underway at the 4Play Night Club on Chippewa Street one of the promoters says he was approached by workers at the club, "The management came to us and told us: hey, we were promised a 50/50 ratio. If it's not a 50/50 ratio by 11...the party's over point blank. Point blank and simple," said DeVaughn Jones, the promoter of the party.
Jones says the managers were referring to the ratio of whites to blacks.
The owner of the club, Christian Batagglia issued this statement about the incident that reads in part:
"It was solely a financial dispute with the promoters. Once this dispute was cleared up, the party was allowed to continue until 4am. I look forward to revealing all the facts of that night in a lawsuit I plan on filing soon."
The battle is also heating up online. Jones and others in the group say they have received threats on Facebook for speaking out.
But they are also receiving support.
"I am outraged. It is a private establishment but in no way, shape, or form should any individual, any organization, private or public treat people a certain way based upon their race," said Brenda McDuffie, President of the Buffalo Urban League.
The group has filed complaints with the City of Buffalo and is in the process of filing a formal complaint with the NAACP.
