DERBY, NY (WKBW) - A massive brush fire devoured a field near a county beach after a resident ignores the state-wide burn ban overnight.
The blaze broke out on Lakeshore road near Sturgeon Point in Derby.
Fire crews were called to the field Saturday morning after flames were reported to be shooting 50 feet into the air.
"I'm surprised that people aren't paying more attention to the severity of how explosive the dry conditions are," said North Evans Fire District Chief Nick Mecca.
