BATAVIA, NY (WKBW) -A community is devastated by the death of a high school senior. 17-year-old Collin Crane lost his life over the weekend in a two car crash in Genesee County. State Police say Crane was driving westbound on State Route 33 in the Town of Stafford just after 6 p.m. Saturday when his car somehow drifted into oncoming traffic. His vehicle then struck an oncoming car head on . Crane was declared dead at the scene and the other driver involved, 49-year-old Carmen Vega of LeRoy, was seriously injured. Vega remains at the Strong Memorial Hospital with a severe leg injury.

Crisis counselors provided support for students Monday at Batavia High School, where Crane was a senior.

"Although he was shy, the kids pointed out once you got to know him, he had a wonderful sense of humor," said Principal Shawn Clark. "He was a great student and a hard worker. He loved hockey and was very involved in hockey."

Clark says the high school will hold a candlelight vigil in remembrance of Crane Tuesday night from 4 p.m. until 5 p.m. Many of the students will then immediately proceed to his wake from 5-8 p.m. at the H.E. Tuner Funeral Home located on East Main Street. A memorial service will also be held there Wednesday morning at 10 a.m.
