When veterans come home from war they often have trouble getting back into society.  Aside from depression, sleepless nights and turning to crime there is another big problem: drug and alcohol abuse.

With 62,000 veterans now living in Erie County alone, those who end up in handcuffs can now attend a special court that is catered specifically to them.

Buffalo Veterans Treatment Court was the first in the country to try and help get wayward vets back on their feet and back on track. The court is headed up by the Hon. Robert Russell Jr. and the key to its 90 percent success rate has become crystal clear: mentors who have also served are now on the front line to point their fellow comrades in the right direction.
