Preliminary water testing by the Erie County Department of Health's Division of Environmental Health has come back negative for bacteria for the communities affected by Wednesday night's water main break in Amherst.
According to the Erie County Health Department, results for a second test will be determined in next 24 hours & released when available. Updates should be coming sometime Saturday morning.
These results will be reviewed along with other test results to determine when the county can safely lift the boil water notice for the towns of Amherst, Cheektowaga north of Broadway, Clarence, Lancaster and Newstead and the villages of Depew, Lancaster and Williamsville.
In Genesee County, a boil water notice is also in effect for Corfu, Darien and Pembroke.
The chairman of the Water Authority told 7 Eyewitness News that crews have installed new pipe at the site of the break, and they're sealing it to an old pipe.
Crews in Amherst were also dealing with another water main break Friday morning on North Forest Road between Sheridan and Indian Trail Road. Crews told us they expect that parts of the road will have to be closed as the break is repaired.
