Unite by Night organized a walk on Friday to celebrate the diversity of Buffalo and assure the community the racist and ignorant language that has been coming out as a result of Charlottesville would not be tolerated in Western New York.

"This is a great opportunity for us to kind of just go out there and show who we truly are as Buffalonians" Unite by Night co-founder Nii Sowah said.

The walk, which was in conjunction with the National Federation for Just Communities, or NFJC, began at North Park Academy and circled around Hertel Avenue.

"It's a walk as one and that's exactly what we're trying to do," NFJC Community Eduction Development Coordinator said, "We're trying to show that diversity is something to be celebrated."

This is just one step in how Unite by Night is looking to reassure the community that people of all walks of life are welcome. On Saturday, October 1st they will be holding "Dash for Diversity" in Delaware Park.
