A University at Buffalo student has been sentenced to six months in jail and one year of supervised release for conspiracy to import Xanax from Canada.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Wei Xiang says Adam Brzozowski, 23, of Queens, Zhe Wang and Kevin Szura, all imported shipments of pills, or "bars," containing alprazolam, commonly known as Xanax.

Officials say law enforcement officers intercepted two packages addressed to Brozowski in March 2016. Each packaged had almost 3000 Xanax bars

According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, Wang and Szura ordered the drugs on a dark net marketplace using bitcoins.

The students illegally imported about 80,000 bars over the course of a year. Most of them were sold locally.

Brzozowski was sentenced to six months in jail and on year of supervised release.

Wang was convicted and sentenced to two years in prison. Szura has been convicted and is awaiting sentencing.
