Amherst Police say a bomb threat was called in to the Jewish Community Center in Getzville around 11:15 a.m. Monday.
Staff evacuated the premise and police swept the facility with help from the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority and K9 units.
Police say nothing was found on the scene and the JCC is now back open for business, but the investigation continues.
This comes after 48 JCCs in 26 states and one Canadian province received almost 60 bomb threats during January, according to the JCC Association.
Buffalo Police also evacuated the JCC on Delaware Avenue in Buffalo.
The Executive Director of the JCC of Greater Buffalo, Richard Zakalik, emailed a letter out to its members notifying the community of the bomb threat and the actions taken to make sure everyone was safe.
"Along with a number of JCCs throughout the country, the JCC received a bomb threat today," said Zakalik. "We are very proud of the efficient and professional actions of our staff and we are grateful to local law enforcement agencies that assisted us. We are also grateful to our members who cooperated in the evacuation in a very timely fashion."
"I hope this kind of thing stops and I can feel safe coming to the gym. I think that's a pretty normal thing to want," said Madeline Collins, as she went in the Buffalo JCC, Monday.
