Two people died, and another person was injured in a two-car crash in Hartland Sunday night.

The Niagara County Sheriff said the crash happened around 7:15 p.m. at the intersection of Ridge Road (Route 104) and Quaker Road.

The sheriff said preliminary investigation shows a car driving southbound on Quaker Road approached the stop sign at the intersection. The car then apparently continued through the stop sign, and into the intersection at a slow rate of speed. That's when a westbound pickup truck, which had the right of way, slammed into the driver's side.

The driver of the vehicle has been identified as Margaret A. Hammerl, 82, of Stamford Connecticut.  The rear seat passenger in the vehicle has been identified as Andrew J. Hammerl, 84, also of Stamford Connecticut.  Both the driver and passenger were pronounced dead on the scene.  The front seat passenger in  the vehicle has been identified as Mary R. Haberman, 77, of Eggertsville.  She remains in critical condition at ECMC.

The driver of the pickup truck only suffered minor injuries. Deputies tested the driver for impairment, and found the driver was not impaired. The driver will not likely face charges, the sheriff said, but the Niagara County Accident Investigation Unit will continue to investigate.
