A truck driver from Saratoga County now admits he was using his cell phone to shop online when he crashed into the car of a University at Buffalo professor, killing her instantly.

Kristofer Gregorek, 27, pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter Thursday in State Supreme Court.

Gregorek's box truck was traveling 70 miles an hour last June when he rear-ended a car driven by Ellen Volpe, 44 of Rochester, near exit 49 of the New York State Thruway.

Volpe, a wife and mother of two young boys, was on her way to work as an assisant professor at the U.B. School of Nursing.

Gregorek faces up to 15 years in prison when he is sentenced June 28th.
