Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown has issued a travel ban for pedestrians overnight in South Buffalo, from 10:00 p.m. until 7:00 a.m.
This is in addition to the ongoing travel ban for vehicles, which has been in place for a couple of days and has no definitive end time.
The Mayor says city crews are making progress in the South Buffalo area, and have been moving snow using dump trucks. As of 10:00 Thursday night they managed to open all major roads in the area to emergency crews.
So far 1,000 truckloads of snow have been removed from South Buffalo and dumped at the Central Terminal. Buffalo crews are now starting to dump snow at the Union Ship Canal.
For South Buffalo residents who are stranded and can't get to a pharmacy to get their medication, Governor Cuomo has signed an executive order allowing police officers and firefighters to deliver medicine. Residents should contact their pharmacies, and the pharmacies can deliver medications to Buffalo Fire Headquarters for them to be taken to patients.
The next major concern the city is facing is flooding. They mayor says the areas of biggest concern are Seneca Street, Abbott Road and Kaisertown. He's asking residents there to start preparing for flooding now.
"Elevate things off the basement floor. If you've had flooding in the past, it is a likelihood you'll get flooded this time. Also if you have a sump pump, make sure the sump pump is working," he said.
Buffalo Fire and Police personnel have been out doing welfare checks throughout South Buffalo. If you have a loved one you would like them to check on, call either the fire or police department.
