It has been a month since the Snowvember storm. That has given Erie County officials time to look over what they call the Disaster or D-LAN system, used during the storm.

It is a computer program where emergency mangers across Western New York can request help during a storm.

Some criticize the system say that they made requests and got little or no response. Those who know the system blame lack of training for the slow response. Now, they are holding a training session in Hamburg Thursday and Friday.

“So you need to be able to tap in to non-traditional first responders in your community, within your town or village and you need to be able to get them trained on disaster-LAN, on working the phones, on taking calls,” Dan Neaverth with Erie County Emergency Services said.

Those who know the system said that if it used correctly, it is efficient. The system has replaced much slower methods of response include requests by paper and telephone.
