After a first tornado hit Hamburg at 12:30 p.m. as an EF2 rating, with speeds up to 106 mph, a second tornado hit ten miles down the road in the Town of Holland in Erie County. This tornado touched ground at 12:50 p.m., according to The National Weather Service.
For one Holland resident, a pine tree in her front yard uprooted and went up 20 to 30 feet in the air, spun around, and landed right on the roof of the house, a construction worker who saw this as it was happening said.
“Life will go on. Thank God I’m okay,” Dianne French said.
The 30 year resident of Olean Road couldn’t walk into her own bedroom. There was debris from the ceiling’s insulation lining the floor. She also had cracks in her ceiling. French wasn’t home when the tornado passed through.
“It can be replaced. I can’t, but the house can,” French said. French is unable to stay in her home because of the damage.
Many in the community of the Town of Holland have no power or access to well water. The tornado swept through at speeds of 95 mph for a length of 2.5 miles, The National Weather Service reports.
A third tornado hit Allegany County. The National Weather Service rated this tornado as an EF1.
