As more than 51 million Americans get set to travel to see loved ones this Thanksgiving and holiday season, it's important to make sure your car is tuned up.
Many of the top issues mechanics at Casullo's Automotive in Kenmore see this time of year are tire-related.
"Temperature affects tire pressure," says Rocky Casullo. "So we tell everybody; [in] warm summer conditions and cold winter conditions, bring in your car and we'll do a quick check and adjust your tires if necessary."
AAA predicts it could have to help more than 330,000 customers who become stranded because of flat tires.
Along with making sure your tires are properly filled, Casullo also recommends making sure your car's battery is in good shape.
"Stop into a shop and have your battery checked, because we're starting to have colder mornings now, so we're seeing some battery failures," he says.
As the colder weather begins to set in, you'll also want to ensure you're prepared in case you get stuck. Experts say to always have a blanket and extra fluids for your car handy; but more importantly, Casullo says you should keep your gas tank filled.
"We're in November, so you never know," he says, "Keep the car prepared."
And finally, Casullo says a simple preventative check before you head out to your loved one's house could help save you down the road.
"Crack the hood and take a look underneath," he says. "If you see anything that just doesn't look right with your belts or hoses, or you see some fluids leaking it's time to take it in and have us take a quick look at it."
AAA estimates about 89% of travelers this holiday season will take road trips to be with family and friends.
