Want to know what one of the hottest selling items is in supermarkets?  It is "quick meals."

Thanks to a dramatic shift in shopping habits towards convenience, stores like Tops and Wegmans are facing a growing demand for complete, packaged meals that are ready to go, affordable and nutritious.

Wegmans' "EZ Meals" brand uses a team of chef's to create restaurant-quality food that is either ready-to-eat or ready-to-cook.

Tops has its own line of "Grab-n-Go" meals that cost less than buying individual items, and much less than buying a similar item in a restaurant.

Both companies say they are already seeing tremendous growth with "quick meals" and expect the demand from customers to increase even more in the future.

Part of the booming popularity of "quick meals" is due to a younger generation that is not interested in preparing, cooking and cleaning up for a meal.

On the other end of the spectrum, seniors with fixed incomes are finding favor with "quick meals" because of cost, ease of preparation, and the food has higher quality and is fresher than fast-food.
