The Salvation Army kicked off its Red Kettle campaign on Wednesday with its 2016 Red Shield Luncheon.

The event, held at The Millennium Hotel in Cheektowaga, acted as a fundraiser and an opportunity to recognize significant contributors.

The First Niagara Foundation was awarded the Corporate Citizenship Award for funding educational support programs for at-risk mothers.  Carolyn and John Yurtchuk, co-owners of Matrix Development Corporation, received the Partners in Caring Award.

Russ Salvatore, owner of Russells Steaks Chops & More, rang the ceremonial red bell.

7 Eyewitness News Anchors Jeff Russo and Ashley Rowe emceed the Red Shield Luncheon.

The Salvation Army will launch its annual holiday kettle drive on Thursday, November 3rd at KeyBank Center before the Sabres’ 7 p.m. game against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The holiday Kettle Campaign is The Salvation Army's signature fund-raiser in its efforts to aid those in need in the Buffalo area. Salvation Army officers will be located at arena entrances with kettles to collect donations prior to the game. Sabretooth will also be on hand to help solicit contributions for the start of the holiday season.
