Ten Thousand Villages, a non-profit international retailer that features fair trade handmade crafts and gifts from around the world, is moving from Main Street in Williamsville to Buffalo's Elmwood Village.

The suburban location, which is locally owned and operatede, will relocate this fall into the long-time home of Urban Leisure and Luxury at 736 Elmwood. The owners of Urban are retiring from the retail sales business.

Ten Thousand Villages currently has a rent-free Queen City Pop-Up location in the Brisbane Building in Downtown Buffalo. The success of that location, which will remain open until September, played a factor on the decision to open a permanent location in the city, said owner Emma Gietzen-Kane.

"We are excited about continuing our mission of offering fair trade gifts from around the world to Western New York," Gietzen-Kane said.

Ten Thousand Villages supports 130 artisan groups in 30 countries worldwide. Its local store is run by 30 volunteers and is always looking to expand its volunteer base, Gietzen-Kane said.
