AMHERST, N.Y. (WKBW) - It's a bird... It’s a plane... It's Pip and Bean!
“The name of our company is Pip and Bean. It comes from our girls' nicknames. Penelope is pip and Charlotte is bean,” owner Alyssa Wolfe explained.
Alyssa and her husband Brian started making super hero capes in 2009. “We were a year into grad school when we realized that a grad student pay and two kids would just not pay the bills. We were going to a kids’ birthday party and didn't have money for a gift so I started to make a cape,” Alyssa said.
The cape was a hit. Now Pip and Bean in Amherst is a booming business for the young family.
The Wolfes said they are dedicated to the community and hire all local people. “Being able to hire locally, it is fun and it’s great to work with people nearby and be able to offer jobs in area,” Brian said.
Alyssa agrees. “It's nice to work with people who were in the same situation as we were trying to make ends meet,” she said.
They not only hire local but give back to the community through many good causes.
“We get so many emails a month from families who are going through cancer or chemo and we send out a couple capes a month to those families,” Alyssa said.
Whether you are looking for a super hero cape with your initials or a full-fledged cape costume, Pip and Bean has got it covered.
“From a little tiny shop in Buffalo, N.Y. We have capes going all over the world. Every time it happens it is amazing,” Alyssa said.
