The Town of Tonawanda Solarize campaign ran from August to December of 2017 which offered a discount to residents to install solar panels. As of Wednesday, 55 residents had panels installed.

Initially the town expected around 25 residents to accept the offer and were surprised with the amount that actually installed the panels.

"Everything we're looking at is to be more energy efficient and to lower the cost for tax payers" Town of Tonawanda Councilman William Conrad said.

The Town offered two different solar companies that residents could use. Bob Howard, one of the residents who accepted the offer, says it saved him over 30% as the panels cost him $5,000 to install. Something he can pay off in a few years.

"If I did my math correctly the load that I took out for the balance of $5,000, I should have that paid off with this (the panels) in three and a half years."
